One Video Game You Won't Mind Your Kinds Playing

You hear a lot of bad things about video games, but the Johnny Money game just released from the NFIB (National Federation of Independent Business) might just change your mind - at least for this one.

Here's a link to the game, http://www.nfib.com/page/YEFJohnnyMoney.html

Now, let me tell you why you should encourage your kids to play.

The game can teach your kids the basics of running a business. Not just the easy "buy low, sell high" concepts, but also about the pitfalls of hiring employees, borrowing money, and dealing with the unexpected that any business owner knows to expect when operating a real company.

The NFIB also put out a press release to explain the game here: http://www.nfib.com/object/IO_38451.html

Environmentalists Aren’t at Fault

Fumes from power plant smoke stacks darken the sky, Mae Moh, Kampang
province, Thailand. Environmental activists and villagers in the Mae
Moh area believe that emissions from the Mae Moh power plant are the
principal cause of respiratory disease in this area. An abnormal
number of villagers in vicinity of the power plant are dying of
respiratory related illnesses. Farmers in the area claim that acid
rain caused by the plant is damaging crops and trees.

Boss Dodger has come out with a post that attempts to cause consternation to people who care about the environment.

You can see his post here: http://bossdodger.wordpress.com/2008/06/24/environmentalists-need-to-sit-down-and-shut-up/

He takes the position that we care only about the environment and don’t have sympathy for the people who are adversely affected by climate change and bad policies.

His proof is his assertion that the environmental movement is responsible for the meteoric rise in grain prices over the last year or so – and that the suffering and starvation of people in Africa is therefore a result of the environmental movement.

This is, of course, an overly simplistic explanation.

Gas prices have risen because of many issues; our foreign policy is chief among them. We have created useless wars in the parts of the world that produce the most oil, and then everyone is shocked that prices go up?

We drive big SUVs, and we consume 25% of the world’s oil, and then we’re surprised when prices go up?

The environmental movement has been trying to get people to buy more fuel-efficient cars for years. Yet people continue to drive their Hummers.

Maybe ethanol wasn’t such a great idea afterall, but we have to try to find alternatives. Continuing on the current path will only lead to more shortages.

Another Great Pre-Built Website

The two big barriers to entry for websites are development time and cost. Pre-built systems are great because they cut all that down to just a small licensing fee that you can pay and be up and running in a short time.

One of the best is the Social Networking System available at http://www.ning.com/. This is really great because it is free, and you can be up and running in just a few minutes. No need to arrange server space; no need to install anything. It’s all baked right in.

If you think you might want to have a social networking capability on your website, check them out at http://www.ning.com/.

While the Boss is Away

Looking for a great site to use to waste time at work? Need a quick comedy fix?

Check out The Onion (http://www.theonion.com/); a fake news outlet that’s so real, you’ll swear it’s your local newspaper. At least if it weren’t so ridiculous!

Be sure to check out the special section called, “War for the White House” (http://www.theonion.com/content/whitehousewar). This is their special section on the 2008 U.S. Presidential Election.
